Company profile

The roots of the BUNDESBILDUNGSZENTRUM date back to 1927, when the first journeymen carpenters were trained at the Staatsbauschule Kassel. In 1936, the Bund Deutscher Zimmermeister (BDZ), renamed the Reichsinnungsverband des Zimmerhandwerks (Reich Guild Association of Carpentry), established the Reich School of German Carpentry in Kassel. After the end of World War II, the buildings were repaired in 1954 on the initiative of the BDZ and the Association of Hessian Master Carpenters (VHZ). On February 1, 1954, it was then possible to resume teaching as the "Bundesfachschule des Deutschen Zimmerhandwerks" in preparation for the master craftsman's examination. Since that time, more than 3300 journeymen have been prepared for their master's examination in carpentry at our Kassel facility.

In addition to the master carpenter course, we offer other full-time courses: Certified restorer in the carpentry trade (since 1995), master roofer for master carpenters (since 1999), building energy consultant (since 2001).

In 2003, with the installation of the Hundegger K2 joinery machine, we were the first training centre to introduce modern CNC technology. The qualifications "machine operator" and "specialist for joinery technology" are taught on this machine.
Since 2008, we have been the "BUNDESBILDUNGSZENTRUM des Zimmerer- und Ausbaugewerbes gGmbH" (Federal Training Centre of the Carpentry and Finishing Trade) and are supported by the two partners Bundesfachschule des Deutschen Zimmerhandwerks e. V. and Bildungswerk Bau Hessen-Thüringen e. V.

In 2012 we qualified as one of only three competence centres for the carpentry trade in Germany. In the projects required for this purpose, a large amount of teaching material was produced, which may also be used free of charge by other educational institutions. These can be downloaded from the joint platform of the competence centres for the carpentry trade: www.holzbau-kompetenzzentren.de

In 2014 we published the textbook "Grundwissen moderner Holzbau" (Basic knowledge of modern timber construction) in Bruderverlag. Employees of the BUNDESBILDUNGSZENTRUM regularly write professional articles in the magazines "Die neue Quadriga" and "Zimmermann".

Today, the BUNDESBILDUNGSZENTRUM stands for proven, practice-oriented and theoretically sound course concepts for apprentices, journeymen, entrepreneurs as well as architects and engineers and enables lifelong learning from journeymen and master craftsmen to further training as successful managers and entrepreneurs.
